ADMISSIONS POLICY

Chemung Valley Montessori School welcomes students of all races, colors, nationalities, and ethnic backgrounds to participate in the various academic, social and extracurricular activities offered by the school. As an institution, we do not discriminate against candidates based on their race, color, national or ethnic origin in the administration of our admission, tuition or educational policies.

Our program for Lower and Upper Elementary levels span three years, with emphasis on providing each child with sufficient time to benefit fully from the program. We maintain a wait-list of candidates when we have no openings, and when a slot becomes available, we prioritize admission based on the Montessori principles of education, with consideration given to age and gender. Applicants from other Montessori schools, siblings of our current students, and children of our staff members may receive priority placement.

Upon receipt of the application, it remains valid for three years or until the child becomes ineligible, whichever comes first. We do not accept deferrals of admission. If an applicant declines our offer of admission, their application will be removed from our wait-list. However, parents have the liberty of re-applying at a later date.

You may always contact the Director of Admissions for updates on your child's application status.

Our classes operate under the principle of freedom within limits. In cases where a student is being destructive, disrespectful, or using materials aimlessly, our staff quietly and calmly redirects them towards purposeful work. Our teachers and older students model proper behavior for everyone in the classroom. In rare cases where a student is consistently disrespectful or disruptive despite our efforts, we may remove the student from the school to prevent a negative impact on others.

  • Yes, absolutely. At CVMS, we firmly believe that a Montessori education can benefit children at any age. As a result, we consider applicants of all ages, as long as we have available space. Once we have an opening, the applicant is given the opportunity to visit a class to ensure a smooth and successful transition. Our staff works closely with new students to help them adjust and become proficient with the Montessori materials and concepts.

  • As we do not receive any local, state, or federal aid, we do not have the necessary staff or facilities to cater to the needs of children with serious challenges. However, we carefully evaluate each applicant's circumstances on a case-by-case basis. If we believe we can provide the necessary support for a student to thrive, we offer them a placement in one of our CVMS classrooms.

  • We strive to provide suitable accommodation for students who have previously attended Montessori schools.

At CVMS, diversity is a perennial value, and we aim to foster a learning environment where students can be introduced to, embraced, welcomed and celebrated regardless of their differences. While some families will be subject to the maximum tuition fee, others with lesser financial resources will pay a smaller yet fair percentage of their income. This sliding scale discount is restricted to full-day students.
