OUR MISSION

Embracing the Montessori philosophy, we nurture each child’s individual potential, passion for lifelong learning, and sense of world community.

Our Values

We embrace the Montessori approach.

We value and develop the whole child – intellectual, physical, emotional and spiritual.

We value academic excellence and nurture academic achievement .

We recognize each child must develop at his or her own pace.

We value and respect each child as a caring, responsible learner.

We foster independence and creative autonomy, encouraging responsible freedom of expression.

We provide a physically and emotionally safe environment where diversity is celebrated.

Our staff is the cornerstone of our program. We encourage and support professional development.

We believe in a strong partnership of students, parents and teachers.

We practice community service and social responsibility.

We inspire and actively infuse these characteristics throughout our learning community:

Curiosity

Command of concepts

Critical thinking

Cooperation

Compassion

Citizenship

Confidence

The renowned Montessori philosophy, methodology, and materials are at the core of how we accomplish this. We have deliberately small, multi-age classes, Montessori-trained and certified teachers, and hands-on materials that have proven extremely successful in inspiring children’s curiosity and self-motivation, and in fostering a depth of understanding that transcends “teaching for the test.”

At CVMS, you’ll discover a calm yet lively environment. We believe in being creative and fun-loving, but at the same time, we’re very serious about developing curious, self-reliant learners, academic achievers, and respectful, responsible, compassionate individuals. Our culture is infused with genuine passion and enthusiasm for our school, our students, our approach to Montessori, and the successes of our alumni.

HISTORY

From the outset, Chemung Valley Montessori has been shaped by dedicated individuals with a passion for providing an excellent academic environment, coupled with a culture that nurtures the whole individual. What began as a single preschool classroom has evolved to a rich program for children from age 2 through 8th grade.
